Martlesham Parish Council
Here are some of the things Martlesham Parish Council has done or is doing, either on its own or in conjunction with other communities:
- We set up a working group – ‘Martlesham Climate Action’ – to promote, support and extend existing initiatives and drive new ones with a focus on reducing carbon footprints and protecting and enhancing biodiversity.
- We run a community carbon reduction forum to explain how our lives cause carbon dioxide emissions and share ideas for reducing them.
- We held Martlesham’s first Climate Summit on 25th September, 2021. Click here to find out what happened on the day.
- To protect and enhance biodiversity, we have joined and/or are supporting projects that are giving the natural world a helping hand. Examples are the creation of Bright’s Orchard, encouraging the ‘re-wilding’ of gardens and verges, and protecting local woods and our local SSSI – the Site of Special Scientific Interest between Martlesham Heath and Dobbs Lane.
- To make Martlesham a Wildlife Friendly Village, we will be taking part in East Suffolk Council’s Green Village and Rewilding initiatives.
- To reduce waste, we are supporting the Martlesham Repair café and Suffolk Repair Shed.
- We continue to lobby local and national politicians for better public transport and cycle lanes in our area.
