The Martlesham Repair Hub
If you’ve watched the BBC’s very popular Repair Shop program, you might think our Repair Hub works just like that. People with cherished items – grandfather clocks, old teddies and so on – that have seen better days. Well-equipped paid professionals who can bring them back to life.
You’d be wrong.
At the Repair Hub, you’ll find people with everyday items that have broken and volunteers helping them out.
We’re talking here about things like clothes, electrical or electronic goods, or maybe bikes, crockery or toys.
As well as getting such things going again, a major objective of the Repair Hub is to show the owners of items what goes on inside so they can do future repairs themselves.
Sometimes, of course, the problem will be too complex for it to be sorted ‘while you wait’. Or spare parts will need to be tracked down and bought. In such cases, a volunteer may offer to take your item away and return it to you later – just for the cost of any spares or bring it along to the Suffolk Repair Shed.
And occasionally, the Hub won’t have anyone skilled enough to help. But don’t despair! They may know someone local who can.
Please get in touch by email if you have skills to share and would like to help out as a volunteer, or if you have an item in need of repair.
